Ormonde "Machine"
-
Recorded in a house in Marfa, Texas, “Machine” is the product of a collaboration between solo artists Anna-Lynne Williams and Robert Gomez, who carefully constructed these ten tracks as their own private love life blossomed, then waned.

Perhaps as a result of this backdrop, “Machine” is a tense affair with foreboding atmospherics in each song and Williams’ deadpan vocal adding a spectral like quality to proceedings. The music is dark and chord progressions are unpredictable adding further tension to the pieces. ‘Sudden Bright’ is perhaps the most easily accessible song, although it seems moot to highlight such tracks in an album that begs to be heard and considered as a whole.
Information that arrived with the record states that Williams and Gomez worked closely together on this collection and even passed lyrics between each other to finish lines and there is certainly a closeness and fragility to the album that tells of two people discovering musical territories together which is something quite interesting and unique for an album to document.
