Jesse Dee & Jacquie B "Our Ghosts Will Fill These Walls"
-
Based in smalltown British Columbia, boy-girl duo Jesse and Jacquie have been taking breaks where they can find them for three years. Functioning as a duo, trio or quartet, depending on what’s required, they now deliver their third self-released album, calling on a host of friends to make their most fully realised album yet.

The album’s opening double-punch of ‘Straggler’ and ‘In Between’ shows them in fine roots-rock fettle, all bristling guitars and genially whirring Hammond. They tone things down a tad from hereon in, yet at the same time, the complexity of the songs is better revealed.
Frequently drawing on Vaudeville (‘What I Want You To See’) and jazz (‘Wells’), sung in a distinctive old-timey harmony, one can’t knock the quality of the songwriting here, even if you find yourself yearning for the energy of the first two songs. The aching ‘A Year In The Sky’ would be a great closer, with its inventive use of Wurlitzer and strings, only to be foiled by a bonus track, the kitschy New Orleans jazz of ‘I’m Still Hot’.
