Dropkick "Paper Trails"

Sound Asleep Records, 2012

Expertly crafted pop songs from Scotland’s hard grafters.

  • “Paper Trails” is the fifth album release from Scotland’s Dropkick on the Swedish label, Sound Asleep Records. It is hard to deny Dropkick their work ethic, having released eleven albums and two EPs on their own record label and making fifty nine previously unheard tracks available on their website, “Paper Trails” does not show any signs of a band slowing down or reaching an artistic nadir.

  • Not strangers to Americana UK, the band have often been likened to Teenage Fanclub and for this reviewer, one could also add The Connells and early Wilco too. In short, Dropkick play harmony drenched pop rock songs that are instantly easy on the ear and “Paper Trails” is no exception. The album contains fourteen perfectly crafted pop rock songs that were recorded live at the band’s rehearsal space. This adds a sense of spontaneity to the recordings and keeps a freshness to the performances that is more akin to garage/punk rock than rock harmony groups. Dropkick do not deviate from their pop rock formula which adds cohesion to this bright and breezy collection.
