Glasgow's No Mean City Festival Announces Line-Up

Grandaddy, Patti Smith, Deer Lake AND Tick (!) and many more to appear

Details have been announced of the second in the annual americana concert series in Scotland, the ‘No Mean City’ Festival in Glasgow, a unique celebration of Americana music with some internationally acclaimed names alongside up and coming artists.   Tipping its hat to the city’s close ties and associations with American roots music and heritage, ‘No Mean City’ will  again present over 20 artists, performing across six of Glasgow’s live music venues; O2 ABC Glasgow, Òran Mór, The Art School, Stereo, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and SWG3.

With a combination of all-seated and standing events, the festival will feature many of the sub genres of Americana music, from Californian indie rockers, Grandaddy, to American singer, songwriter, poet and artist, Patti Smith; the rock’n’roll delights of Deer Tick and Justin Townes Earle, to the country-folk of Frank Fairfield. Scotland’s very own KT Tunstall will also be in attendance for a very special show alongside Billy Bragg, who is curating their performance in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie; plus many more throughout September 2012.

Latest CD Review

  • Ian McFeron Time Will Take You Self Released, 2013

With a jingle of tambourine we get a likely candidate for album of the year – simple as. There is absolutely nothing, and I do mean nothing not to like. With a band comprised of Ryan’s Cardinals, alongside players from Patti Griffin and John Hiatt you’d expect nothing less. It’s the good bits of Dylan for sure, and Mellancamp – even bits of Lennon. There is an undercurrent of Petty in places, mostly it is just the best thing I’ve heard in a while.
