AMA Announces Conference Panelists

all 3 Americana Lifetime Achievement Award honorees will participate

Examiner.com reports: "While the majority of the attention about the Americana Music Festival is rightly focused on the nightly Americana Showcase concerts, industry professionals and fans who want a peek behind the curtain of the business side of Americana Music are also excited about the Americana Music Conference. In an announcement today from the Americana Music Association, the first round of artists and professionals who will participate in the conference was revealed."

For 2012, all three Americana Lifetime Achievement Award honorees will participate in the Conference as well. Bonnie Raitt, who is being honored in the Performance category, will be the subject of the annual keynote artists interview, hosted by NPR personality Ann Powers. Author Robert Gordon will interview Instrumental category honoree Booker T. Jones about his storied career. Songwriting category honoree Richard Thompson will be joined by Tift Merritt for Songwriter Sessions at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Other panels at the 2012 Americana Music Conference include:

GRAMMY Museum Bob Santelli will host a panel titled "100 Years of Woody", which explores the legacy of influential songwriter Woody Guthrie.

Eric Ambel from The Bottle Rockets and Jimbo Mathus from Squirrel Nut Zippers will feature in a production panel.

Music Fog's Jessie Scott will host a performance panel with artists Robert Ellis, Charlie Faye, John Fullbright, Lera Lynn, and Paul Thorn.

Parnassus Books will partner to host a panel titled "Music in Books" featuring authors Sylvie Simmons on Leonard Cohen, David Menconi on Ryan Adams, and Kinky Friedman on himself.

Ian Rogers from Topspin will deliver a business keynote address.

Other industry professionals announced for the Americana Music Conference include Steve Savoca of Spotify, Jim Mahoney of A2IM, entertainment attorney Rosemary Carroll, Copyright Alliance's Sandra Alstairs, and Songlines Sean Coakley.

A star studded celebration of the days when folk bought sheet music (in their millions) 'The Beautiful Old Turn Of The Century Songs' is a project curated by Paul Marstellar and Gabriel Rhodes. A year in the making this pair have persuaded a host of luminaries to join them in this festival of old time music hall favourites which range from 1823 to 1918. Using instruments that would have been available at the time of the originals they have crafted a delightful homage that will, depending on the age of the listener, revive memories of family sing-along's and the BBC light programme or intrigue at the sound of contemporary artists delving into this cornucopia of antique delights.
