The latest names, to complete this year’s line-up have been revealed by Europe’s most acclaimed folk festival, with more than a sprinkling of americana: ground-breaking Malian husband and wife duo Amadou & Mariam, Tommy Emmanuel, regarded as the world’s most exciting country-folk acoustic guitarist, Thea Gilmore, described by Mojo magazine as “the most coherent, literate and charged British singersongwriter of her generation,” and Bafta-winning songwriter, the lovely Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo, from down under.

Classic Steve Earle Boxset Out June

"I found my voice as a recording artist on those records"

Billboard reports: "With a new album just out, Steve Earle is also getting ready to revisit what he calls "one of the most important period of my career." On June 25, Earle and Shout! Factory will release "Steve Earle: The Warner Bros. Years," a box set featuring the three albums he released on Warner Bros. between 1995-97 -- "Train a Comin'," "I Feel Alright and "El Corazon" -- as well as the unreleased concert album "Live at the Polk Theater" from 1995 in Nashville and a DVD, "To Hell and Back," from a 1996 concert at the Cold Creek Correctional Facility in Tennessee. Earle wrote an introduction for the set, while David Simon, who created the HBO shows "The Wire" and "Treme," contributed an essay about Earle and his music."

Folk Legend Richie Havens Dies at 72

guitarist who famously opened the Woodstock Festival

Rolling Stone reports: "Richie Havens, the folk singer and guitarist who famously opened the Woodstock Festival in 1969, died this morning from a sudden heart attack. He was 72. Havens was born in Brooklyn, New York and relocated to Greenwich Village in his early twenties. He released his first album, A Richie Havens Record, in 1965; by 1967, he had signed with Verve of MGM Records to release his breakthrough third album, Mixed Bag. He released Something Else Again in 1968 and Richard P. Havens, 1983 in 1969, both of which landed on the Billboard Top 200 chart and built his reputation as an impressive live performer."

Latest CD Review

  • Hero & Leander "Tumble" Tapete, 2013

Attempting to be profound is a losing strategy, H&L just want to have a good time and entertain their audience whilst doing so; and it’s a manageable aim, a target they hit. This is their first full length and there’s a riot of influences that are jostling for attention and being worked through, it’s a kaleidoscopic good time. No party is complete without obligatory 1980’s references and there are many here, often oblique, the opening bars of ‘Soul to Soul’ (another reference?) have a bass sound that dominated, not quite Gino Palladino but not far off, add in a saxophone and you’re halfway to your school reunion.
