New Interviews and Live Reviews Now Up

Eric Church, Chuck Prophet, Houndmouth, the list goes on...

New live reviews now up for Eric Church (pictured) who our own John Hawes was blown away by at the Forum (not literally),  our also-own Paul Kerr's take on Chuck Prophet, and Simon Richardson covers the Joe Boyd tribute to Nick Drake.  We've also got brand spanking new interviews up with Calgary based songwriter Lorrie Matheson, UK americana purveyous Clubhouse Records whose Tristan Tipping speaks to us about the label and industry today, and the ace Houndmouth whose new album hits the street next month and who'll be our video of the day tomorrow (and a rather impressive video it is too)

Patty Griffin Talks Down Robert Plant Rumours

but talks up her new record

Billboard reports: "Just how intimate can this sound? That's the question Patty Griffin set forth to answer when recording her seventh solo album, "American Kid," out May 7 on New West Records. The cult singer/songwriter already connects with a legion of fans through songs detailing all manner of heartbreak and joy. But for her first album of new solo material since 2007's "Children Running Through It" (2010's Grammy Award-winning "Downtown Church" was a live recording), she says, "I wanted it to sound like I was in the room with you.""

  • Hero & Leander "Tumble" Tapete, 2013

Attempting to be profound is a losing strategy, H&L just want to have a good time and entertain their audience whilst doing so; and it’s a manageable aim, a target they hit. This is their first full length and there’s a riot of influences that are jostling for attention and being worked through, it’s a kaleidoscopic good time. No party is complete without obligatory 1980’s references and there are many here, often oblique, the opening bars of ‘Soul to Soul’ (another reference?) have a bass sound that dominated, not quite Gino Palladino but not far off, add in a saxophone and you’re halfway to your school reunion.
