Richard Thompson Kicks off "Electric" Tour

by name and by nature, with sell-out show in Nashville

So many jokes, so little space...  So moving on to the unifying force of good music instead, examiner.com reports: "Less than 24 hours removed from the last of his run of tour dates opening for Americana royalty Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, Richard Thompson kicked off his headlining tour in support of his new album 'Electric' on April 6 in the city where the album was recorded, Nashville, Tennessee at 3rd and Lindsley Bar and Grill."

Iron & Wine Join Glen Hansard for Private Gig

played intimate two-hour set at Sayers Club

Hope you had a "lucky" weekend if you were of the horse racing voyeur variety or a better than non-descript one if you weren't. Rolling Stone reports: "They brought no plan or set lists, but modern troubadours Sam Beam (a.k.a. Iron and Wine) and Glen Hansard (the Frames, Swell Season) filled a tiny club in Los Angeles last night with songs aching, gentle and raging for a private show hosted by public radio stalwart KCRW. The intimate two-hour set at the Sayers Club came together as a result of Beam being in town to promote Iron and Wine’s upcoming album, Ghost On Ghost, while Hansard was passing through on his way back to Dublin. They share management and a long musical friendship."

Billy Bragg Dedicates anti-Fascist Song to Di Canio

latest to condemn manager's appointment

Have a good weekend whatever you end up doing.  A footie related story on AUK!  Billboard reports: "The appointment of Di Canio on Sunday (March 31) has provoked three days of controversy, after he previously admitted he was a "fascist", although he said that did not qualify him as a racist. Politician David Miliband resigned as the club's vice-chairman over his appointment and the Dean of Durham called on him to renounce the ideology publicly or risk being associated with "toxic far-right tendencies", the Guardian reports."

  • Avitel Raz "Infidelity" Sotones, 2013

Born and raised in Israel, schooled in India and with a sound that has been described as "experimental folk" one might expect Ms. Raz to be a wispy hippie type prone to channelling her inner spirit and warbling on about love. However a glance at her web page blog reveals a woman who while immersed in her Jewish heritage rails against the hypocrisy of orthodox Jewry and in particular the role demanded of women within it. She comes across as feisty and funny in equal measure and although her album isn't political or a rant against her bugbears reading the blog shed some light on the person behind the songs here.
