Neil Young's 'God Save The Queen' a career low?

Postby Lajohnson » Fri May 25, 2012 9:48 pm

Head over to the Neil Young Thrasher site for the video and song - as a lifelong fan this could be a low point of which there have been a few. On the Thrashers site fans are analysing the song - it's anti British, Colonial Days etc etc - to my ears it's dreadful and a warning about the whole Americana project - I'm buying it but fear it will be keeping Greendale & Are You Passionate company.

Why ?

I know Neil does what he likes but really.....still...it's not Trans.

It's worse than TRANS - in my opinion - let's wait for the complete record before a final decision but without the evocative videos this record could well slip quickly into the Neil records 'bought not played'.

I saw the Trans tour and liked both the shows and the album. Likewise with Greendale, saw the solo acoustic U.K. shows and the American ones featuring all the actors and stage sets/props, the 2 and a half hour sets featuring an hour of Greendale and an hour and a half of Neils' greatest were two of the very best Neil shows I have seen over the past 40 years, plus the setting, Red Rocks, added to the whole experience (as well as Lucinda Williams and band opening the shows). Both are important albums in Neils' cannon, unlike "Landing On Water", "Are You Passionate" and "Americana" which are just treading water and will be fairly meaningless in the long run.
