I can see your point of view.
As much as I like both albums, and am a fan, I can see that, in the overall scheme of things, they don't come across as particularly 'ground-breaking' and not particularly 'alt' when listened to, in isolation, thirty-odd years down the line.

When I first Gram Parsons about 25 years ago the first thing I bought was the "Live 1973" album (which was just out and reviewed quite favourably by the musical inkies). I then picked up the two studio albums and while I liked "GP" I found "The Return of The Grievous Angel" rather slick and didn't really listen to it much at the time. Although I've readjusted my view of the studio albums since, I still prefer the "Live 1973" album for its rawness.
