Oholics “Disgraceland” (Lose It Productions, 2009)

Groovy like
A Swedish psychedelic rock band may seem unlikely to set your world on fire but this six piece band from Gothenburg actually generate a thrill or several on this offering. With a sound rooted in early Floyd (with a Syd Barrett cover to boot) it’s revved up to hyperdrive and could actually be the album that the Stones tried to make with their Satanic Majesties. One more comparison might be of a less anglocentric Soft Boys mixed with a swagger that owes (if not the music, the attitude) to Oasis and The Stone Roses.
Sitars and spacey keyboards abound here but the overall attack comes from the guitars and singer Christoffer Rydestahl’s impassioned vocals. The nagging persistency of the riff on “Dream On” is trippy in the extreme while “I Am The Sun” evokes the legendary 13th Floor Elevators’ “Slip Inside This House” and is almost majestic in its hypnotic drone. So a lot of influences but able to stand on its own two feet, listen loud or on headphones for an experience.
