Rob Kendt "I'm Not Sentimental" (Ruby Records 2007)

A bizarre but interesting listen

'Lullaby' begins Rob Kendts record with a music hall, 'Friends' era Beach Boys feel. Title track 'I'm Not Sentimental' follows and only reinforces the thought that this sounds a little like Ben Folds Five.

'Suspicious Parties' has a great, English beat group feel to it, with a melody that is close to 'Harry Rag' by the Kinks. Shuffle drums and slide guitar are the basis for 'Pick Me', a great song that lyrically looks at the "It's not fair" bemoaning of a shy boy in a bar scenario.

A rat-pack, lounge core mash up of Britneys 'Ooops I Did It Again' and Lennon and McCartneys 'The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill' really does need to be heard to be believed. Great stuff.

All in all a really interesting album with some great lyrics 'Summer is coming, I'll have lots of afternoons, to lie on my porch eating macaroons' Tasty!
