Tyler Burnett "Tyler Burnett" EP (Bingo Lady Records 2007)

Tyler Burnett impress with EP

Three piece band Tyler Burnett's second release, following their first full length record called ‘There You Go’ revisits some of those songs plus some additional songs on this seven track record.

The trio is made up of old friends Parker Brown (guitars & vocals), Stephen Brown (bass & vocals) plus Pat Epley (drums & vocals). On the first couple of listens it sounds like a little too much sub standard Doobies/Hootie & Blowfish territory. Then track three ‘So On’ registered which persuades you to give the record a few more listens.

In addition to the music, local artist Jason Jam reflects his own take on the songs with an illustration of each song in the CD booklet.

The opener ‘Jealousy’ rocks along and features a guitar intro and riff that I have heard before - could be John Mellencamp, from Lonesome Jubilee. This would make sense as the trio are aiming for those listeners but fail to reach those heights on this record, apart from the previously mentioned track three, which clearly shows the boys have talent for song writing and playing.

Plenty of potential, but probably needs another 2-3 songs and perhaps a full-length record.
