Hail The Size “Side Two” EP (Independent 2006)

No need to curb your enthusiasm for LA comedians’ musical excursion

Comedians making a record... it doesn’t sound so funny does it? The high water mark being Benny Hill’s ode to the lactose Lothario ‘Ernie.’ But delve a bit deeper here though; one of this duo wrote for Roseanne and the other appears in the pinnacle of the sitcom, "Curb Your Enthusiasm." So not so daunting a prospect after all and when you realise that this is country rock with added wit rather than a Ween style parody, you can start to relax. The songs and vocals are in debt to early Wilco, and there are various flavours; pedal steel and organ drenched rocker, piano led Country, bossa nova Country cross-over, downbeat acoustic and country rock. Never does the comedy put in an unwelcome appearance. The humour is mostly self-deprecating - even a title like ‘The Ass-Kickers Song’ doesn’t turn out to be an embarrassment. These are talented songwriters and musicians who just happen to also be comedians.
