Americana UK, the UK’s largest website focussing on the americana (alternative-country) music genre, celebrates a decade of existence with a special event at Liverpool’s Contemporary Urban Centre on Saturday 12th November featuring a host of acts from both inside and outside the USA. The Liverpool based website has grown over the ten years of its existence from a one man operation to a site with now 25 writers based around the UK, reviewing over a thousand albums a year with listings, daily news updates and interviews with some of the biggest names within the genre.
Nine years on from the original Americana One event in Liverpool which the Guardian reviewed kind of nicely in 2002 , the day will feature a range of acts over three stages at Liverpool’s prestigious CUC venue including:
Richmond Fontaine: Portland, Oregon based band who will in duo form be playing an acoustic set – their last album received major accolades from the UK national press including 5 stars from Uncut who described it as “raw, autobiographical brilliance” (USA)- Richard Buckner: Brooklyn, NY based singer songwriter who has recorded for almost two decades now, was formerly signed to MCA Records and who has just released his eleventh studio album “Our Blood” (USA)
- Mark Eitzel: Lead singer with the legendary San Francisco based band American Music Club who has written with REM’s Peter Buck and Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley. His most recent solo album “Klamath” was described by Uncut magazine as his best yet. (USA)
Danny & the Champions of the World: Band fronted by main man Danny George Wilson at the forefront of the new UK americana movement whose new album has gained 4 star accolades from The Times and Q among others – “a great unsung country hero” (The Mirror) (UK)- Redlands Palomino Company: UK country rock band described by the Guardian as “alt country heroes” and BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris as “exceptional.” Nominated for “Best Americana Act” at British Country Music Awards 2011. (UK)
- Plus other UK based americana acts including the Toy Hearts, Jason McNiff, Quiet Loner, Case Hardin, the Lucky Strikes, Gerard Starkie, Southbound Attic Band, Ratty Little Fingers - and Liverpool comedy pirate act (who have recently received great Edinburgh Fringe accolades) Jollyboat.
There are a limited number of just 250 tickets available. All proceeds from the day will go to local and national charities.
You can get your tickets for £22 from the CUC box office from 10am-6pm on 0151 708 3529 or online from their website here. Just a one pound booking fee too compared to the second mortgage you need to take out from the likes of Ticketmaster.
